You may have experienced the website has been unreachable on
these Christmas' holidays. The website remained unreachable on
25th and 26th December, and any access to my domains (black-
light.gotdns.org, 0x00.ath.cx, 0x90.ath.cx, b0f.ath.cx) took you
to a pwned page set up on the fly on Altervista. Someone may have
thought my web server had been compromised. In truth, my server
has always been here, under my feet, on, up and running. Some
lamers just stole the password of an old email account of mine
(my fault, I haven't been using that for several years and the
password was quite easy, and used on some old forums too). No
problem, except for it was the secondary mail address for my main
email account, so they just used the "forgotten password" step to
get a password reset form for my main email address, compromising
it. Then, it was just a children's game to reset my DynDNS pass-
word, letting my web domains point to that arbitrary location.
Yesterday night, anyway, the attacker contacted me giving me back
my data, trying to explain me it was just a Christmas' joke, af-
ter he tried for the third time, this time without any success,
to compromise my new accounts too. Of course what happened was
quite serious. First of all for the unauthorized use of personal
images in a public context, then for the unauthorized web redi-
rect of domains belonging to someone else, and for the illegal
possession of someone else's email accounts. And, most of all,
*ALL* my emails in those accounts were deleted. This is the main
reason that will push me to press charge anyway, as there was no
reason to delete my personal emails other from pure and reason-
less vandalism. And the act, that compromised in no way the secu-
rity of my machines, but just involved the use of a simple pass-
word on an unused email account to make any kind of computer dam-
age and vandalism, can only be classified as greatest lamer and
ignorant act of the year.
